SEATTLE – Seattle Sounders FC will have both of their new signings available for selection on Sunday when they take on the LA Galaxy.
Sounders announced the signings of Uruguayan attackers, Nico Lodeiro and Alvaro Fernandez earlier this week to bolster an offense that has scored a Western Conference-low 20 goals this season.
Lodeiro, 27, joins Seattle after spending the last year with Argentine power Boca Juniors. Unlike Lodeiro, the 30-year-old Fernandez is a known entity having spent time with Seattle Sounders FC and Chicago Fire, before moving abroad two years ago.
Although Seattle will have a pair of new faces on the field on Sunday, Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard is unfazed.
“We expect some slight differences with a new manager and the bringing in a few new faces, but no major differences,” Gerrard said. “We know it’s always a tough game going there; it’s going to be a full house. They have big support; the surface is very tricky as always. We need to make sure we play really well. We went there a few weeks ago and got a tremendous result, and we’re looking for the same thing.”
