CARSON, Calif. – Ola Kamara has become one of the league’s most prolific goal scorers in Major League Soccer in recent years, but his tally in the LA Galaxy’s 3-0 victory over New York City FC last Saturday had special importance.
It was the talented Norwegian forward’s first preseason strike of his Major League Soccer career.
Kamara opened the scoring with an impressive volley in the ninth minute off a rebound from a shot by Romain Alessandrini on Saturday. The goal capped a sterling debut for the striker at StubHub Center as he pestered the New York back line for much of his 45-minute shift.
"I haven’t scored a goal in the preseason the last three years, so I don’t know if it’s positive to score now or not," Kamara told LAGalaxy.com with a smirk on his face "But the fitness is good and it’s always a good feeling scoring goals. I love that."

Head coach Sigi Schmid was particularly impressed with his star striker, stating that he’s continuing to integrate with his attacking teammates as the squad moves toward the start of the season.
“Ola is the kind of player, as time goes by, we’ll learn how to use him more,” Schmid said. “He learns what our guys are doing more as well.”
According to the Norwegian, not only is the team starting to mesh, but he’s also hitting his stride ahead of next month’s opener.
“I think the chemistry is coming, of course, I think it was a strong performance overall," Kamara said. "That chemistry is important for us. I think we have a lot of attacking power as I have said before and we are going to continue working on that.”
“I feel great; I always want to play even more than [45-minutes]. I think the body is responding well and preseason has been going well as well so the body is soon to be game fit.”
