CARSON, Calif. – Perry Kitchen is officially a member of the LA Galaxy, now where does he fit in the team’s crowded midfield?
Los Angeles acquired the midfielder on Tuesday after acquiring his league rights from D.C. United. Kitchen joins the club after spending the last two seasons in Europe with Scottish club Hearts and Danish side Randers following five seasons with United.
A natural holding midfielder, Kitchen brings a dash of grit and bite that was lacking in the center of the park a year ago.
“I’m a guy who goes out and leaves everything on the field. I put in my challenges and my shift each day,” Kitchen told LA Galaxy Insider. “I can connect the back to the front; I’m going to win my duels and start the attack. All the important roles of a six.”
The 25-year-old joins a packed central midfield that already boasts Jonathan dos Santos, Sebastian Lletget, Baggio Husidic, Joao Pedro, and is expected to add defensive midfielder Servando Carrasco whose rights were acquired earlier this month.
Despite the crowded numbers in the center of the park, Kitchen is ready to fight for his spot.
“We have a lot of quality on the squad. There’s a lot of talent here. There is going to be plenty of competition to get on the field, but that’s good, and that’s healthy,” Kitchen told LA Galaxy Insider. “It’s the sign of a good team. It’ll ultimately be up to Sigi and his staff to determine how they want the team to play. All I can do is go out there and play my best to show that I should be on the team game in and game out.”
