CARSON, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will have a new man at the helm when they host the LA Galaxy in the 65th edition of the California Clásico.
The Earthquakes relieved head coach Dominic Kinnear and top assistant John Spencer of their duties on Sunday. Kinnear went 27-31-27 in his second stint as Earthquakes’ boss.
Replacing Kinnear will be former Earthquakes technical director Chris Leitch. Alex Covelo will join the former Quakes defender as his assistant coach.
"Chris is the ideal person to take this role for the Earthquakes at this time," said Earthquakes General Manager Jesse Fioranelli in a statement. "He has a history with the club and has very good knowledge of our entire development pipeline from the youth teams, through PDL and USL up to the first team. He combines that with a shared vision for the club's identity that we have been developing for the past months. Chris and Alex give us two very good soccer minds with a desire to make this club one of the best in MLS."
Leitch becomes the ninth coach in Earthquakes history.
