ATLANTA – Following the LA Galaxy’s 4-0 defeat to Toronto FC there was a common refrain in the team’s locker room.
“Guys are playing for their jobs,” said defender Dave Romney.
“The main message was that guys are playing for their jobs. Play for some pride,” echoed goalkeeper Jon Kempin, referencing a team meeting held postgame.
With the Galaxy essentially out of the hunt for the postseason, the words have rung true as the team looks to end 2017 on a high note with just six games remaining. The Galaxy will play their next three matches away from StubHub Center and start their road swing on Wednesday against Atlanta United FC.
As the season wraps up, head coach Sigi Schmid stated that players must continue to battle.
“Everybody has to find what motivates them,” head coach Sigi Schmid said after the team’s training session in Atlanta on Tuesday. I think our meetings need to be our meetings, but I think that everybody needs to find what motivates them.”
