CARSON, Calif. – The MLS SuperDraft is fast approaching, and with the second overall pick in this month’s draft, the LA Galaxy are hard at work vetting a potential selection.
The Galaxy hold the second and 40th selection in the first two rounds of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft which will take place on Jan. 18 in Philadelphia. The Galaxy also owns the 48th and 90th choices for the third and fourth round on Jan. 21.
Most of the attention will be on the No. 2 overall choice, which is the Galaxy’s highest draft selection since the 2009 SuperDraft. For head coach Sigi Schmid and his staff, the name of the game recently has been identifying talent to see who will bolster the roster.
“We spent a lot of time watching college games recently. We’ve had people all over the place consolidating our information,” Schmid told LA Galaxy Insider recently. “Right now, our assessment of the college pool is pretty good. We have a good understanding of who is out there. It’s still a moving target, but we feel pretty good about where we are.”
