CARSON, Calif. – Jonathan dos Santos will miss this weekend’s match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, LA Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid confirmed on Tuesday.
Dos Santos picked up a hamstring injury during the team’s closed-door scrimmage last Friday that forced him to miss a call-up to the Mexican national team. The 27-year-old midfielder has started in both matches for Los Angeles this season.
“He said he felt great going into [the match], but it was just enough to keep him out of the Mexican camp and the match this weekend,” Schmid said. “But we expect him back for LAFC.”
The younger dos Santos brother joins a long list of absences for the Galaxy’s match with Vancouver. With the team shorthanded, Schmid says his staff is considering why the rash of injuries is occurring right now.
“It’s frustrating. We’ve talked about it as a staff. We’ve certainly looked at them," Schmid said. "There are unique circumstances to some of them, but as any coaching staff when you have something like this happen, you look at it.
“We know what our numbers and we test hamstring strength one to another,” The Galaxy boss added. “You never want to go through this period, I’ve always felt sometimes that things happen in bunches. … Sometimes it just goes this way.”
