CARSON, Calif. – Jonathan dos Santos could be on the training ground for the LA Galaxy next week per head coach Sigi Schmid.
Dos Santos was out at practice on Friday clad in a Galaxy polo shirt in his first appearance at training a day after signing for the club as their newest Designated Player. Although dos Santos joined the club only a day ago, the Galaxy's newest boss is optimistic about when he'll be in training.
“I don’t know what the timeline is because there are visa issues involved so he may need to go back to Mexico for a day or two," Schmid said. "Our hope is that he’ll be cleared in time for our next game and can be part of our training next week. At what time point, we’re not sure.”
As for when he could see the field in a game, Schmid says the Galaxy’s newest midfielder has told him that he'd be ready very quickly.
“He says he has a body that stays fit. He’s a guy that looks pretty fit, and there are certain players that it doesn’t matter if they take time off, they always have a level of fitness,” Schmid said. “Those guys with his type of body, they’re not super big, they’re very athletic. He loves to work. He’s been working on his own, and he’ll continue to do so to prepare for training with us.”
