COLUMBUS, Ohio – The LA Galaxy are facing a pivotal week in their chase for the postseason.
Los Angeles face two massive clashes against Columbus Crew SC on Wednesday at MAPRE Stadium and then a crucial home California Clásico match with the San Jose Earthquakes at StubHub Center four days later. Sigi Schmid’s men presently sit 11 points out of the Western Conference’s final postseason spot with 11 matches remaining.
Schmid’s Galaxy will start their busy week without Giovani dos Santos or Jermaine Jones and with Romain Alessandrini’s status still uncertain due to a nagging knee injury. Although Los Angeles head into the week banged up, the Galaxy’s boss says his team must show up ready to claim all six points.
“We’re at a point in our season where ties aren’t going to get us where we want to go,” Schmid told LA Galaxy Insider. “We need to win our home games and we didn’t do that [against New York] so we need to pick up wins on the road to make up for that and when we get back at home against San Jose, we need to win.
“These two games without a doubt are big games. If we can walk away from these two games with two wins then that gives us that little bit of inspiration and confidence and hope to be able to move forward.”
