Steven Gerrard helps 10-year-old boy battling leukemia prior to LA Galaxy match in Seattle | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard made the dreams of a young child from Liverpool stricken with leukemia come true prior to Sunday’s match with Seattle Sounders FC.


Charlie Fearns, 10, traveled to Seattle after more than $200,000 dollars were raised to send the child to receive a potentially lifesaving treatment in the Pacific Northwest that is unavailable in the United Kingdom.


Prior to the game on Sunday, the lifelong Liverpool FC fan and his brother Harrison were able to meet Gerrard, who personally donated more than $33,000 dollars to the child’s fund. The Fearns boys were also able to serve as Galaxy mascots and participate in the pregame match photo. Gerrard then presented Charlie with an autographed jersey after the match.


“Steven Gerrard and LA Galaxy went above and beyond for us. They were incredible,” Sophie Fearns, Charlie’s mother said. “Steven Gerrard has been such a great support throughout Charlie’s treatment and we are incredibly thankful”.


Fearns is undergoing Car T-cell therapy in Seattle, which uses a patient’s own immune system to fight cancer. In order to pay for the treatment, a large fundraising campaign entitled “#CharliesChance” on social media.


After the game, Gerrard and teammate Nigel de Jong took to social media to show their support.
