Todd Dunivant remembers the finest year of his career in 2011 | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – Todd Dunivant announced on Wednesday that he will call time on his career at the end of the season ending a 13 year career in Major League Soccer.

At present, Dunivant has played 331 games across his 13 seasons while tallying seven goals and 21 assists. During his career, Dunivant has won a remarkable five MLS Cups which is the second highest total in league history.

But of all the years –and championships—that Dunivant enjoyed no year was better than 2011. A year after the Galaxy saw their season end with a Supporters’ Shield winning campaign, the Galaxy roared back to prominence the following season.

With Dunivant manning the left side of defense, the Galaxy motored through opponents en route to a Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup double in 2011. For his role in LA’s remarkable success, Dunivant was named to the league’s Best XI for the first, and only, time in his career.

Although everyone involved with the Galaxy knows that 2011 saw Dunivant at his peak, only Dunivant himself was fully aware of how things nearly went dramatically different.

“It was an interesting year; it was certainly the best year for me but I was sort of at a crossroads, at 2010, at the end of the season, it was a difficult year for us. We had bowed out of the playoffs to FC Dallas to home in emphatic fashion, 3-0,” Dunivant told LAGalaxy.com. “It was a transitional year, and I was very close to be traded that season. It all came to a cross-roads and I had a good conversation with Bruce, and said that this was where I wanted to be and that my commitment was fully here. That stuck with me throughout the rest of my time here.

“That season was my best season, getting Best XI was a huge honor; I met my wife that year. We had what I consider to be the best team in the history of MLS. It was special year.”
