LA Galaxy Goal of the Month competition presented by 76 Gas | JUNE
Goals by Special Olympics Unified player Jose Gomez, LA Galaxy II and Academy forward Jonathan Estrada, Jose Villarreal, Ema Boateng, and Jack McBean have been nominated for the award.
The winner will join Giovani dos Santos, Academy star Efrain Alvarez, and Dave Romney as past winners of the competition.
The five nominees are below:
JOSE GOMEZ vs. San Jose Earthquakes
Special Olympics Unified forward Jose Gomez helped the LA Galaxy’s Unified squad defeat their counterparts from the San Jose Earthquakes with a long-range blast just seconds into the match. Gomez’s goal was a brilliant finish as he caught the Earthquakes goalkeeper off his line and then kissed the Galaxy crest en route to a 5-2 win.
JONATHAN ESTRADA vs. Rio Grande Valley
Jonathan Estrada showed that LA Galaxy II’s youth movement is working with an opportunistic finish in Los Dos’ victory over Rio Grande Valley. Justin Dhillon found himself at the right place at the right time, intercepting an errant Rio Grande Valley pass before quickly finding Estrada who curled his shot into the back of the net to give Galaxy II the win.
JOSE VILLARREAL vs. Orange County SC
Jose Villarreal knows how to score world-class goals and his finish against Orange County SC might have been in his finest. In the Galaxy’s fourth-round U.S. Open Cup contest, Villarreal lashed a left-footed bomb from distance that helped the Galaxy advance in the competition.
EMA BOATENG vs. Houston Dynamo
When Ema Boateng is at full speed, there’s no catching him. In the Galaxy’s draw against the Houston Dynamo, Romain Alessandrini held off three defenders and found Boateng at full sprint streaking down the left side. Gliding by the defense with the ball at his toe, Boateng rounded the ‘keeper and put Los Angeles on the board.
JACK MCBEAN vs. Colorado Rapids
Jack McBean capped off his brace against the Colorado Rapids in remarkable fashion with a cheeky backheel that beat U.S. legend Tim Howard. McBean’s impressive finish could not have been possible, however, without an industrious run by João Pedro to sneak through the defense and find McBean.
