LOS ANGELES – Zlatan Ibrahimović is in talks with the LA Galaxy and optimistic about a return to the club in 2019.
On the final day of 2018 media availability, Ibrahimović confirmed that he has interest in Europe, but remains hopeful of a return to the Galaxy next season. Ibrahimovic is under contract for the 2019 campaign but has mentioned his desire for an improved deal for next season.
“The club knows all my wishes, all my demands. It’s up to them what they want, but they are very positive. They have been very good to me,” he said. “They have been very helpful, they help me and my family with whatever I need. I have a good relationship with everybody. Let’s say I’m not worried.
“It’s no secret, there is interest from Europe. Absolutely, but my priority is Galaxy. I am here and I’m happy to be here.”
The Swedish soccer legend was a revelation in his first season with the club scoring 22 goals and tallying 10 assists en route to winning team MVP honors and being nominated for league Most Valuable Player award.
When asked, Galaxy president Chris Klein told reporters that it is the club’s priority to bring Ibrahimović back in 2019.
“We’re having conversations. I know he has certain things that he wants, as a club he’s a priority to keep him here,” Klein said. “We’re just in initial conversations, the season just ended a week (ago), we’ve had very good conversations and continue to progress in those and hopefully to a resolution that is good for Zlatan and the club.”
