CARSON, Calif. -- Gyasi Zardes will continue to have a significant role in the U.S. National Team under new head coach Bruce Arena.
Speaking in a Facebook Live Q&A after announcing his 32-man roster for the annual January camp, the former Galaxy boss stated that Zardes will likely remain as a valuable weapon along the flanks for the USMNT as he did under Jurgen Klinsmann. Before suffering a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot last summer, Zardes was a regular for the USMNT in 2016, appearing in every game during their 2016 Copa America Centenario campaign.
"He's been a midfielder with the national team, and that is likely where he's going to be playing with us as well," Arena said. "I know at the same time; he'll likely play the No. 9 position for the LA Galaxy this year. Gyasi's versatility makes him very valuable, and I think he's a lot like [Jordan] Morris in that regard that they can both play as strikers and outside midfield positions."
