CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy are preparing to sign Jelle Van Damme to a new contract with the club.
The LA Galaxy Insider is hearing that the Belgian defender is preparing to sign a new mutli-year deal. Van Damme, an MLS Best XI selection in 2016, will start the season as a Designated Player for the Galaxy. However, I’m hearing that the club intends to buy him down with Target Allocation Money midseason with an eye to adding a third Designated Player in the summer. The club presently have two Designated Player spots open.
The 33-year-old made 28 appearances for the Galaxy, tallying four assists in his first year with the team.
