CARSON, Calif. -- Jermaine Jones bagged a goal for his dear ol'dad in Friday's 2-0 win over the Montreal Impact.
The Galaxy's 36-year-old midfielder scored in the 74th minute of the team's victory opening his account for his new team. The goal was not only important because it helped seal the Galaxy's first home win of 2017, but also because it helped Jermaine give a birthday present to his Halbert Jones who celebrated his birthday on Friday.
"I’m happy of course to score to goal,” said Jones to reporters after the win. “Especially today is my dad’s birthday and I told him I’d try to score a goal. Goals are always good if you help the team to win.”
After a frustrating week, Jones admitted that his goal and his strong showing against Montreal were the perfect way to signal his return to form.
“Yeah, I have to prove to people, so I have to run. I always say I try to have fun," Jones said. "After the whole week, with all the talk – after the Panama game, especially – I think I said what I wanted to say and now the focus is on the Galaxy. I try to talk on the field, and that’s what I have to do.”
