CARSON, Calif. – Jonathan dos Santos is ready to get down to business with the LA Galaxy.
The Galaxy announced the signing of the team’s newest Designated Player on Thursday and presented him before the Los Angeles media a day later. Dos Santos, 27, is still unavailable to train with his team as the Galaxy await the receipt of his visa documents and international transfer certificate.
After spending the entirety of his career in Spain, dos Santos is ready to get to work with the Galaxy alongside his elder brother Giovani.
“I came here because it’s a great opportunity for me to grow. It’s a great opportunity for me to play with my brother and I’m happy to be able to play with him,” Dos Santos said during his introductory press conference. “It’s always been a dream of ours to play together and to make history in a team like the LA Galaxy. This is the best organization in Major League Soccer.
“My objective is to win titles and to be a figure for this team and the league. I want to continue to grow as a player and continue to play for the [Mexican] national team as well.”
The Galaxy are hopeful that the Mexican international will be ready to join the squad in training next week and potentially make his debut as soon as next Sunday's clash with the Portland Timbers. After a slow start to the season that has seen the Galaxy drop to ninth place in the Western Conference, dos Santos is ready to help put his new team in playoff contention.
"It’s true that the team isn’t doing great, but the Galaxy is the best team in MLS and I’m here to help turn things around," dos Santos said. "I’m here to work hard to hopefully win a title this year."
