CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy are approaching their bye week eager to right the ship before their match against Columbus Crew SC next Wednesday.
The Galaxy’s bye week is the team’s first since June and finds head coach Sigi Schmid’s team in an eight-game winless streak. Los Angeles will have a total of 11 days to prepare for their trip to Central Ohio, which will ultimately help determine their slim postseason hopes.
"Most things are going against us right now, one day it’s got to change, it cant stay this way at home," defender Ashley Cole said. "I don’t think it’s gonna carry on the whole season, it’s difficult to take after the first half performance [against NYCFC].”
This week, Schmid has afforded some respite of his star players with time to rest their injuries as Jonathan dos Santos, Giovani dos Santos (hamstring), Romain Alessandrini (knee), and Jermaine Jones (toe) have rested at times this week. As Schmid looks ahead to Columbus, he's hopeful that his team can get right.
"The more training we get the more the guys understand what we’re trying to do. I thought our ball movement was quicker in the back and that opened things up and got Romain and Ema isolated a little bit which is something we need to do for two of our most dangerous players. Now it’s just a matter of us continuing to do that and continuing to build our fitness. I thought our fitness tonight was much better than it’s been in our last few games and we have to continue to build on that.”
