On Thursday, January 30, the LA Galaxy Foundation welcomed forty-five students from Towne Avenue Elementary School for a Protect the Pitch field trip at Dignity Health Sports Park.
With their school across the street, these fourth and fifth graders walked over and started their field trip by watching the LA Galaxy Boys’ Academy U-17 team practice penalty kicks. As a thank you for watching, all the Academy players gave high-fives and took photos with all the students in attendance.
After Academy training, students took a stadium tour where they visited the trophy case, press box and took photos on the main pitch. The tour ended in the Galaxy Garden where Kevin Chavarria, LA Galaxy Season Ticket Service Executive and noted Garden Enthusiast, walked the students through the garden and assisted them with cutting piece of fresh mint to take home.
After wrapping up at the garden, students were eager to meet their Garden School Foundation instructor, Dana Swarth, for their cooking class. The students learned how to make a raw apple crisp that included apples, dates, dried cherries and a dash of cinnamon. Before heading back to school, students received LA Galaxy backpacks and water bottles along with a new recipe to take home.
The LA Galaxy Foundation’s Protect the Pitch Initiative continues to provide the opportunity for students to visit Dignity Health Sports Park and learn more about the Galaxy’s sustainability programs taking place throughout the stadium.
