On September 13th, the LA Galaxy Foundation welcomed 42 second-graders from Rockdale Visual and Performing Arts Magnet for a fun-filled day at the StubHub Center. As part of the Galaxy’s “Protect the Pitch” initiative, students were able to learn about the sustainability programs taking place throughout the stadium.
Rockdale students began their field trip by cheering on the LA Galaxy Boys Academy during their training session. A stadium tour followed, with the opportunity to visit the locker rooms and take photos on the field. The tour concluded with a visit from LA Galaxy Chef Morgan Bunnell and Maintenance Engineer Joe Ward, who spoke about the edible garden inside the StubHub Center.
The hungry kids made their way to the American Express Stadium Club where they were greeted by Rachel Black, from Garden School Foundation, for a cooking class. Garden School Foundation provides in-depth garden-based learning to underserved youth in Los Angeles.
Students sliced, minced and mixed their ingredients, creating a healthy and flavorful summer pasta salad with cherry tomatoes, bowtie pasta, mozzarella cheese and fresh basil.
LA Galaxy II players Hugo Arellano and Jonathan Hernandez stopped by to give out autographs and meet their new fans.
The “Protect the Pitch” initiative will continue to provide the unique opportunity for elementary school students to visit the StubHub Center and learn about the various sustainability and eco-friendly resources that are offered.
